April 27th -- 70 x 7

Bear with each other. Forgive the things you are holding against one another. Forgive, just as the Lord forgave you. Col 3:13 NIRV

Hello Friends!

This Friday, FNF will be led by Ephesus SDA's awesome leader, Pastor Horton!
Since he'll have to wake up early to prepare to preach the next morning, we are going to commit to starting the study promptly at 7:30pm!

Our hosts for the evening are Ryan & Leah.
They will provide a delicious meal and ask that we please carpool because parking is scarce.

The fortune cookie image is there because God has been beating me across the head for over a week now regarding forgiveness-- forgiving others and forgiving myself and moving on.  Here's a link to one of the better articles I read on the subject.

Although it is cliched, the quote "To err is human; to forgive, divine" by Alexander Pope is so true.  It is so hard and counter-intuitive but we have the greatest of examples in our Lord Jesus Christ and every day presents an opportunity to do something divine.

Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week & see you at 6:30pm on Friday!

For those interested, Dr. Ben Carson will be speaking tomorrow, 4/26 at 6pm in the Bruno Great Hall, Norton Campus Center at Birmingham Southern College. Admission is free & the doors open at 5pm.

April 20th -- The Story of Esther (remix)

People who live on milk are like babies who don’t really know what is right.
Solid food is for mature people who have been trained to know right from wrong. Hebrews 5:13-14

Good evening!

So, this Friday night's study is partially inspired by good old "Uncle Arthur!"
The bright blue "Bible Story" set is easily recognizable to Christians and non Christians alike and the stories contained helped pique an interest in the heroes and heroines in the bible and laid a strong foundation of values and faith in thousands of young readers.

That being said, we're going to take a deeper look at one of the most familiar and beloved stories and see what lessons we can glean from it as adults.

Please join us at Eliel, Victor and Zeke's place at 6:30pm.

They will provide a yummy feast but ask that we please contribute drinks and dessert.

God Bless and see you on Friday!

This is totally unrelated to the above but it's a cool bit from a devotional:
"Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing" (Isa 43:18-19). Satan discusses our yesterdays; apparently that's the only information he has about us. Jesus discusses our tomorrows. So if you want to follow in His footsteps, focus on what's ahead.

April 6th -- Standing on the Promises

46/366 Broken Promises by Kris Oneal Photography

Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep His promise.  Hebrews 10:23

Hebrews 10 is a wonderful chapter to quote this week and with Easter, the SonRise pageant, OU's alumni weekend and our own extra-special FNF planned (yay!), it seems fitting to include the next two verses too...

24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.

If everyone else (and everything else) should fail us, we have this hope in Jesus Christ-- and in our  Father-- that He is faithful and He will keep His promises to us and has set us up so that we cannot fail-- as long as we trust in Him (Hebrews 10:15-25).

Ok, not sure why but, I felt impressed to share that chapter in case anyone is struggling with disappointment, disillusion(ment?) or dreams deferred.

Alrighty then... now to the main event!
For all of those considering skipping FNF due to one of the above events, please re-read verse 25, because...
FNF will host our BISDA brothers and sisters this Friday night at Birmingham 1st SDA Church!

We will have a fellowship dinner at 6:30pm and a bible study prepared by Symon at 7:30pm.

March 23rd -- Testing, Testing

<><><>
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.
Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?
And I trust that you will discover that we have not failed the test. 2 Cor 13:5-6

Good Evening!

FNF this week will be hosted by... Geneva & Victor!

Please join us at 6:30pm for dinner.

Our study will be presented by our very own Pastor Zeke and we'll begin at 7:30pm.

See you tomorrow!

*******************

After reconsidering the bible study last Friday, I found this and thought I'd share.

Taken from someone else's blog....

Here is what this means for me. First and foremost, when God’s testing and proving comes (cf. I Peter 1:6-7), I won’t whine and cry like a little baby wondering why God has forgotten me, but rather I’ll be thankful that God is helping me remove the dross and slag from my life. I won’t be upset about it. I’ll welcome it, even ask for it as David did in Psalm 139:23-24.
Second, it means I won’t wait for someone else to notice my hypocrisies, insincerities, hold-ups, I’ll start examining myself to see where I fall short so I can grow.
Of course, I have to remind myself why I do this.
Is it to impress God? No. Is it to earn heaven? No. Rather, it is because God’s way works. I know if I walk my own way, it will not glorify God; it will not get me closer to God. So, I test myself because I want to glorify God more than anything else.
***Question: How do you examine yourself to see if you are in the faith?***
